Based on the 1980s hit film that took the world by storm, Footloose the musical sizzles with the same spirit of youth, rebellion and romance.

Redhill's Commitment

Redhill made a commitment in 2016 to its community and audiences that it was to begin staging productions of the highest quality. Redhill believes in zero compromise when it comes to performance excellence and 2017’s production bears testimony to this.

Redhill auditioned in excess of 150 students to carefully select its cast of FOOTLOOSE!  Students were made to learn extracts of the script, test out their dancing abilities and, of course, sing songs that would make them shine.  Call backs for characters were scheduled to ensure that we assembled a dynamite offering.  Over 80 students were selected to bring this magic story to life.  Giving our performers the edge is the support and training that they receive from industry professionals.  Performers at Redhill are pushed, stretched and moulded into young stars and have the support of a highly skilled and experienced creative team.  Partnering with Redhill is Splitbeam (Jersey Boys, Annie, We Will Rock You & more) who will provide us with the most amazing technical setup.

More about FOOTLOOSE - Let us set the scene:

City boy Ren thinks his life is over when he is forced to move to Bomont, an American rural backwater. But things are far worse than he could have ever imagined, as the town bans dancing. It isn’t long before Ren can’t resist breaking the rules, and he’s not alone.

Redhill will not disappoint in bringing you the best talent,  fresh choreography and classic hits including Holding Out for a Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear it for the Boy and of course the title track Footloose.

Based on the 1980s hit film that took the world by storm, Footloose the musical sizzles with the same spirit of youth, rebellion and romance.

Matthew graduated from the University of Johannesburg with a degree in Psychology. However the magnetism of the Arts held a stronger allure.  It was at the U.J. Matthew has had the privilege of performing in Westside Story (Tony), Hair (Paul), Cabaret (Emcee), Peter Pan, the Westend hit Saturday Night Fever (Bobby C - for which he received a Naledi Theatre Award Nomination for Best Male Newcomer), The Full Monty (Nathan), Snow White, The Rocky Horror Show (Riff Raff) and Pinocchio (Jiminy Cricket), Little Shop of Horrors (Seymour) and many other noteworthy productions.  Matthew formed part of the Westend and South African co-produced touring company of Grease where he played Doody (also having received a Naledi Theatre Award Nomination for Best Supporting Lead). Matthew expanded into the world of Education where he is able to share his practical experience in a formal learning environment.

During 2013/2014 Matthew embarked on an overseas adventure with the South African touring company of Jersey Boys, the multi-award winning Broadway musical, where he played Joe Pesci.  Matthew currently holds a permanent post at Redhill School as the Director of Visual and Performing Arts.  In 2016 Matthew, along with Redhill School founded RedFest – A celebration of the Arts – he is now the Festival Director.  Matthew is growing his profile as a young director and producer.
