Since its establishment, Redhill School has built up a strong tradition of dramatic excellence.  Redhill School aims to demonstrate to students the power of the stage to inspire and motivate young people of talent. Throughout the year, students are encouraged to take part in our Inter-house Play Festival, the Festival for Excellence in Dramatic Arts, the annual Major Production and many other informal performance opportunities.  Redhill School offers many opportunities for students to expand on their Dramatic experience and attend external performances and theatre visits.  Workshops with theatre practitioners, who are experts in their fields, are often organised.

Redhill School is exploring the magical world of Musical Theatre.  The move to specialise in Musical Theatre stands Redhill Schools Art’s students in good stead as we collaborate our various Performing Arts Disciplines: Music, Dance and Drama.  Students are trained and coached by active Industry heavy-weights that have worked on shows such as We Will Rock You, Cabaret, Mamma Mia, Grease, Jersey Boys, RENT and many more.

In 2016, Redhill School launched RedFest – a first in combining a collaborative Performing Arts platform for professional performers.  Redfest will continue to develop as a signature event; inviting some of South Africa’s top acts to perform on the Redhill School campus.  Redhill students are encouraged to involve themselves in this festival and learn about festival and venue management.  In addition to this, our community is treated to some outstanding theatre.

For the more serious Thespians and Theatre Makers, Academic Drama – Dramatic Arts, is offered as a subject up until Gr. 12.  In depth study of plays, playwrights, significant dramatic movements, performance studies and a large practical component is explored during this journey.
