Head of School's Welcome

It is with honour and great pleasure that I greet you from my post as the Head of Redhill High School. I am humbled by your decision to choose us, Redhill School, with the responsibility of giving your child the best, holistic education.

Redhill School has enjoyed tremendous success as a beacon of academic excellence. This success has not materialised by accident. It has been through hard work, dedication and the partnerships that have flourished among the staff, parents and the most important stakeholders in the equation - the students. This formula for success is what excites me when I walk through the gates of our school.

But I am also motivated by one of the most significant elements of the Redhill School philosophy - that students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning so that they can become masterful learners: Self-directed, creative critical thinkers, capable of planning, design and collaboration. Our purpose is simple: To ensure that we teach our students the skills and talents they’ll need to prosper in the world of the future – Industry 4.0, the World Economic Forum is calling it. We can’t say for certain what their world will look like, but we understand that they will need some very specific skills to succeed, such as critical thinking, cognitive flexibility, negotiation skills and a high-functioning emotional intelligence. Also, the ability to collaborate and to solve problems creatively.

Redhill School is ahead of the game: We’ve been teaching these skills for some time now, through an ever more innovative and meaningful curriculum, and we’ve seen just how powerful this is. We simply need to look at Matric results, year after year, to see how future-ready and smart the Redhill School student is. The poet William Butler Yeats remarked, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” I am proud to say that Redhill School students are aflame, thanks to the passion for learning that is inspired in them, by their teachers and by the truly distinctive culture of this exceptional school.
